Hilma af Klint was an abstract painter from Sweden born in 1862. She is also described as a mystic and spiritual medium, who created devotional symbolic work with a combination of geometry, symbolism, language, and esoteric wisdom. Hilma had a unique and bold perspective of her time, for she realized that souls would not understand and adore her work until the future generations of souls were born.

Our muse, Hilma af Klint, the visionary Swedish painter, believed her art was a sacred transmission from higher spiritual beings she called the “High Masters.” Through deep meditation and séances with her group The Five, she channeled complex, esoteric symbols and vibrant geometric forms meant to convey unseen dimensions, cosmic cycles, and the evolution of consciousness. Her groundbreaking series The Paintings for the Temple was intended for a spiral-shaped temple to guide viewers on a spiritual ascent, though she knew the world wouldn’t be ready for her work until long after her death—making her art a devoted offering to future generations of awakened souls.

Module One: 

Chakra Paintings. Automatic Drawing and Painting.

Learn to channel your own meaningful symbols of the universe through your expanded or higher self. In this module we will tune into that self and scribe our way into new dimensions of our unique and shared visual language. You will also begin to learn to flow with your work.

Module Two:

Warming Up with the Higher Self. Allowing Vision and Symbols. 

Allow an exalted version of your artist to come through this painting lesson as we not only give homage to the visionary brilliance of Hilda, but also to exquisite and unique wisdom of your colorful soul. You will create a pair of paintings that include symbols that are potent to you for harmonic resonance and expansion.

Module Three:

Painting Master Inspired Works.

Choose one or more of Hilma’s and watch how Alena takes it on as well for a pair of freely expressed paintings. This will also be a somatic painting experience to notice what comes alive for you in all your parts of self. The symbols will make sense to you visually as you unlock new ways to create from your higher self as well as manifest in the future.

Module Four:

Scientific Design of Visionary Painting.

Through the elements and principles of art, Alena will demonstrate how to create an intuitive abstract painting with various layouts that allows you to more deeply understand and trust how to achieve harmony, unity, contrast, movement, variety, emphasis and balance. 

Module Five:

Incorporating Whimsical Trees and Botanicals.

In this playful painting lesson, paint a variety of whimsical tree structures through the higher self. Alena will demonstrate her take on trees (one of her favorite subjects) and how to add that depth and mystery to them.

Module Six:

Series power centered work. With the potency of symmetrical design and mandala like work, you will create a unique botanical and sun series that sparks the soul.

Module Seven:

Your Final Visions. 

For the final module, you will create a series that synthesize and gather all you have uncovered and experienced to create a final works of art. Alena will demonstrate her final higher self painting as well.

In total, 12 +++ PLUS painting examples plus one symbol warm up will be shown. Alena will also include meditations and prompts that deepen your understanding.

Alena is the author of Cultivating Your Creative Life, The Painting Workbook, Intuitive Painting Workshop, The Healing Guide to Flower Essences and beloved teacher of the art-making process, both online and at select retreats. Her work has been featured in numerous magazines and publications, including Dwell, The Washington Post, Somerset Life, Spirituality & Health, ReadyMade, Redbook, Stitch, Victoria, and Natural Health magazine, as well as being featured on Good Morning America and pilot shows for ABC Studios. Her paintings have been exhibited across major cities in the U.S., along with several museum shows. Alena is also a flower essence practitioner, along with being a Reiki master and intuitive healer. Through grace and guideposts, she calls the beautiful areas of Asheville, NC and MUSA in Mexico home. As a facilitator, her intention is that each participant leave a little more transformed, content, and open to wild possibility.
